What is Civil Partnership?
The Civil Partnership Act 2004 allows two people of the same sex register their relationship. Registering a civil partnership will give your relationship legal recognition. This will give you added legal rights, as well as responsibilities.

What if the relationship breaks down?
If the relationship breaks down, the civil partnership can be dissolved and the procedure is essentially the same as the divorce procedure. However, the fact of adultery cannot be relied upon. If your partner has been unfaithful you would need to rely on the fact of unreasonable behaviour.
As for a married couple, who are divorcing, civil partners can negotiate a financial settlement, mediate or apply to the Court for ancillary relief.
